The Comeback

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

I baked a cake last night. I’m painting our living room ceiling. I’m making baby gifts for Kay’s munchkin. I’m writing a 10-week project comparing the three versions of King Kong.

I’m busy, so you all can forgive me for not writing here so much, right?

Oh, and there’s new links over there on the right. Check ‘em out.

Oh Bother.

Only I could sprain my ankle twice – twice! – in a three week time span. I am housebound and nearly bed-bound, cranky and peevish. My ankle looks like a clay model gone bad.

However. I am grateful for these things which help maintain sanity, in no special order:
-My hand-me-down laptop and excellent wireless card
-The lap desk Todd gave me a couple of Christmases ago. Who knew?
-Thaddius the Soft Purple Bear
-Mr. Rogers
-The swift delivery of movies from Netflix
-The three wonderful PBS stations that are the saving grace of our lame cable line-up
-Ritz℣ Crackers and Sargento cheese shapes
-These excellent blue gel ice pack things that model well to the bumpy ankle area
-Mr. Biscuit and The Lant
-L.M. Montgomery and Neil Gaiman
-Joel, Mike and the ‘Bots and the Bread Delivery Short
-The bootleggers who sold me some rare eps of Pinwheel and Dusty’s Treehouse a couple of years ago. These simple kids’ shows are such good company.
-Needles, thread, and Christmas Crafts for Cute Shut-Ins

I really miss my dogs, though. And walking. And leaving my bedroom. Remind me again why I wanted a house with stairs?

Quality Control

Wednesday, November 16th, 2005

Ok. So. It’s November 16 and I haven’t finished the Month of Madness saga. I know. Like an albatross, that knowledge is with me.

But this Quarter has been killer. And it’s all my fault. I haven’t been half as focused as I should have been on my work over the last couple of months, with the net result being intense, ass-kicking effort now as I reach the end zone.

I just made a sport reference. Hunh.

So, I’m worn out. Beat down. And irritated at myself. The good news is that with two more small readings, a smallish writing exercise and a one paragraph summary, I’m done for the Fall. With any luck and a little push, I’ll be done tomorrow. That, my friends, is a week early, so at least I have one accomplishment to hang my pride on.

But, foo. I wish I’d worked harder this quarter. You know I’m going to kill this Spring – and during the December term.

Back with fun entries in a few days…

September Digest

Sunday, October 2nd, 2005

The ninth month of the year has come and gone again, with lightning speed and cracking leaves. I spent most of it studying and walking and cleaning up poop. But, like most of life, there have been unexpected turns and flowing creamy centers. So grab a marshmallow and join me on a trip to My September.

It’s going really well. Tired though. To the bone.

I got a new hat from a far off land and friend:

(what you can’t see in this picture is a sweet brown lab looking up at me all smiley from the end of her leash)

Happy Birthday day to Daddy-O, and to the Country. I may celebrate the independence of this nation by moving to Norway. J, do you have room for us?

love,
