A whomper today with Natalie. I’m really tired, but feeling positive.

Have you heard this story about Strom Thurmond and his daughter? Here’s the CNN article in which his family confirms her claim. Wow. I’d say that’s kind of like getting a blow job in the Oval Office. Only much, much more hypocritical. With respect to the dead, I’ll only say this and then let it go: it’s time we all realize that no politician or leader is perfectly morally upright (except maybe Jimmy Carter), and that it’s time to focus on the things that matter. Like whether or not our leaders manufacture reasons to go to war in order to get re-elected.

But let’s not dwell in the mundanities of politics, hm? Despite wars and Ann Coulter and family drama and many moments of self-doubt, I whole-heartedly admit that life is good. I’m grateful for it all.

Especially my D. One of my favorite snapshots of late has to be this:

Late Saturday evening. A light snowfall muffles sounds of traffic in my neighborhood. Upon D’s suggestion, we are sitting on comfy couches in Caribou Coffee, in a corner full of windows. The airy, cold flakes softy fall outside. I sip a warm Falalala-latte (espresso & foamed eggnog – a rare caffeine indulgence) and watch him, brow furrowed, typing in his laptop. He is writing notes to himself, capturing some lessons he’s learned recently in a seminar about conflict management – lessons he is eager to use in our daily lives because he is so good that way. I smile at him and happily sink back into my book, knowing we’ll go home soon where I can fall asleep with my head on his chest.
